CMAQ Program

The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program (CMAQ) is a federally funded initiative to encourage transportation alternatives that improve air quality in non-attainment and maintenance areas.  A wide range of activities are eligible for funding under the CMAQ program, including: bicycle/pedestrian projects, ridesharing programs, enhancing public transit, traffic signal coordination and synchronization, the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles, and technologies that improve traffic flow and vehicle emissions. Added travel lanes projects are not eligible.
