The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program (CMAQ)
is a federally funded initiative to encourage transportation alternatives
that improve air quality in non-attainment and maintenance areas. A wide
range of activities are eligible for funding under the CMAQ program,
including: bicycle/pedestrian projects, ridesharing programs, enhancing
public transit, traffic signal coordination and synchronization, the
purchase of alternative fuel vehicles, and technologies that improve traffic
flow and vehicle emissions.
Added travel lanes projects are not eligible.
